Berners-Lee - World Wide Web Founder
: Sir Timothy (Tim) John Berners-Lee is the inventor
of the World Wide Web and continues to work on improving
it through his position in the World
Wide Web Consortium. Lee was born in London
England in 1955 and studied at the Oxford University.
He put up the first web site in 1991 on August 6.
The WWW has developed considerably since then and
has remained royalty free and open to everyone.
It was never clear that it wouldn't just
stop (the WWW). Any time during that exponential
growth, it could have stalled. I think we
were never very confident until 1993. Tim

Softwarecompanies
should take more responsibility for security
holes, especially in browsers
and e-mail clients. There are some straightforward
things the industry should be doing right
now to fix things, and I don't know why
they haven't been done yet. Tim

Whether it is a turning point in societal
evolution depends not only on the technology..
but also how we use it! The web does give
us lots more choices about how we organize
ourselves Tim

If I had taken a proprietary control of
the Web, then it would never have taken
off. People only committed their time to
it because they knew it was open, shared:
that they could help decide what would happen
to it next.. and I wouldn't be raking off
10%! Tim
